Post-Biopsy Instructions, Cumberland Surgical Arts and Associates, PLLC

  • PrescriptionsIf you received a prescription for pain medication, follow the directions on the bottle. You will begin alternating over-the-counter ibuprofen (400-600 mg) with your pain medication. Take no other pain medication or sedatives without first discussing with your doctor. Do not operate a motor vehicle or machinery (lawn mower, etc.) while taking the pain medication. Do not take Ibuprofen if you have been intolerant of this medication in the past. Take with food if the medication upsets your stomach or causes nausea.
  • BleedingIf you experience any bleeding from the surgical site, apply firm pressure for 15 minutes. Please call your doctor if this does not stop the bleeding.
  • PainTake your first pain pill when your prescription is filled. It is better to take pain medication with a small snack or following a meal. If your pain increases dramatically several days after surgery, please notify your doctor.
  • DietTake only liquids or very soft food today. Advance your diet tomorrow as tolerated. Avoid hot, spicy foods for one week. Do not use a straw for the first few days after surgery.  It is sometimes advisable, but not absolutely required, to confine the first day’s intake to liquids or pureed foods (soups, puddings, yogurt, milk shakes, etc.)  It is best to avoid foods like nuts, sunflower seeds, popcorn, rice, oatmeal, eggs, tortilla chips etc., it is important not to skip meals. If you take nourishment regularly you will feel better, gain strength, have less discomfort and heal faster.  If you are a diabetic, maintain your normal eating habits or follow instructions given by your doctor.
  • Rinsing – DO NOT rinse or spit today. Tomorrow begin gentle rinsing with the medicated mouthwash prescribed.  If you were not prescribed a mouthwash you will begin gentle rinsing with warm salt water (one teaspoon table salt in 12 ounce glass of warm tap water) after each meal and at bedtime. You may carefully brush your teeth beginning tonight.
  • Smoking – DO NOT smoke or use chewing tobacco for at least one week. The heat and toxic chemicals in cigarette smoke are harmful to healing wounds.
  • Stitches You may notice some stitches in your mouth. These will dissolve over one or two weeks. Do not be concerned if you lose a stitch prior to the return appointment.

I went in yesterday for a consultation and was actually able to actually get my tooth pulled that has been bothering me for two months and I only went for a consultation.Dr Griffith and his nurse autumn P stayed over after hours to make sure I was OK. "This office was friendly and professional. I had a failed root canal tooth extraction and it was done with no pain. Dr Griffith and his staff were very nice and knowledgeable in their fields. Thank you Dr Griffith, Autumn P., Andrea and Selena. This was a 5⭐️ experience. I highly recommend them."

"I’m still in awe of the incredible experience I had with Dr. Griffith! One week ago, he removed three wisdom teeth, and I'm thrilled to say it was one of the best experiences I've ever had. I had been informed about potential swelling and pain, I didn't experience any of that. My follow-up appointment revealed perfect healing, and I'm overwhelmed with gratitude. Dr. Griffith truly has miracle hands. He is by far an amazing surgeon but he is also kind and friendly which made me feel peace during the entire experience. The entire staff, from check-in to check-out, were extremely efficient and made the process seamless. I highly recommend Dr. Griffith and his team to anyone needing dental care. Thank you, Dr. Griffith, for a wonderful experience!"

"Thank you so much to this amazing staff! They made my wisdom teeth removal as simple and painless as possible. Such a great experience and would use them again for any future oral surgery needs!"

"Andrea and Salena were great for check in and out, as well as Dr Lee; I’ve been there before for my wisdom teeth removal and now extractions and they have always been so great at what they do. Even with low staff today, and being the last patient of the day, they still were good about explaining and answering my questions."
