Dental Implant Surgery | Clarksville, TN

Post-Procedure Instructions, Cumberland Surgical Arts and Associates, PLLC

  • PrescriptionsIf you received a prescription for pain medication and antibiotics, follow the directions on the bottle. Take no other pain medications or sedatives without first discussing with your doctor.  Do not operate a motor vehicle or dangerous machinery (lawn mower, etc.) while taking pain medication.  If ordered, take the antibiotic as instructed on the bottle, in its entirety.Do not drink alcoholic beverages while taking pain medication.
  • BleedingSlight oozing of blood is normal for up to 12 hours. This oozing can be controlled by biting on a piece of moistened gauze for 20 minutes. Contact your doctor if oozing or bleeding continues in spite of these measures. Try to avoid spitting — this will promote bleeding.
  • PainTake your first pain pill when your prescription is filled, do not wait until the feeling returns. It is better to take this medication with a small snack or after a meal.
  • RinsingStarting tomorrow, begin gentle rinsing with a salt solution (one teaspoon salt in 12 oz. warm tap water) four (4) times a day. You may carefully brush your teeth beginning tonight. Keep the bristles on your teeth and off the gum tissue. Begin rinsing with Peridex tomorrow.
  • DietTake only liquids or very soft foods today. Do not chew any solid foods in the surgical area until you return for the first follow-up visit.
  • SwellingSwelling is normal after implant surgery. Swelling usually begins resolving after two to three days but may last as long as seven to 10 days. An ice pack applied to your face over the operated area for 24 to 36 hours will decrease the pain and swelling. Swelling can also be controlled by elevating your head by resting it on two pillows for three nights when sleeping. If swelling increases dramatically after several days, please notify our office. (No heating pad for the first three days after surgery).
  • SmokingDO NOT SMOKE FOR AT LEAST ONE WEEK AFTER SURGERY. The heat and toxic chemicals in cigarette smoke are harmful to healing wounds. It is recognized that implants are more likely to fail in smokers. Also, do not use any smokeless tobacco.
  • StitchesYou may notice some stitches in your mouth. These will dissolve and generally need not be removed. Do not be concerned if you lose a stitch prior to your first return appointment.

Exceptionally high standards of dentistry

"I came to get my wisdom teeth removed and Dr. Lee, Auttie, Court, and Destiny were all an amazing team to get to work with. Everything went so smooth and I was so comfortable with all of them! And Dr. Lee has been the only person to ever get an IV in my arm first try so that was amazing😂 Will definitely recommend them for any dental work and will return for any work I need. Fantastic office!"

"I had such a Great Experience here with everyone that helped me from checking in to the procedure! I had Dr.Griffith and I honestly have never had a more wonderful dentist ever! He was very kind and walked me through everything that was going to happen! I appreciate everyone for making this a Great experience for me being so scared!! I would highly recommend to anyone!"

"Absolutely wonderful experience with my 7 year old son.. He was born with a supernumerary tooth between his two front teeth. Dr. Lee put all of my worries to ease promptly on Monday afternoon and said he may have an opening Wednesday due to my son leaving state on Saturday. His staff worked us in 8 am Wednesday morning. It's a 2 hour drive one way, but it was so totally worth it. He explained everything to my son in a way he could understand it. My son was in and out (under anesthesia) in about 1.5hr start to finish. I was also impressed with Dr. Lee's career history. Being my child, i research heavily on the doctors we chose. Dr. Lee graduated in Chicago, then moved on to be chief resident at Vanderbuilt in Nashville. He even did some amazing things in Texas. I could not recommend a better DDS or MD for any dental matter!! Very professional and accomplished individual. He seems to have great empathy for his patients. Wonderful doctor, thank you so very much to you and your nurses!!!!!! (Ps thanks for the tooth he thinks its the coolest 🤣)"
